Welcome to composting season!
With Autumn upon us and our gardens filled with fallen leaves, it’s the perfect time to put your garden waste to work. But composting has more science to it than you may realise and getting it right will make all the difference.
This issue covers one of the most overlooked factors in successful composting: water.
Water in compost: Is it just right?
Did you know water is an essential ingredient for successful compost?
Too little moisture slows down the process and can make it dormant. Too much moisture causes wastes to rot. Finding the sweet spot can feel complicated, especially those new to composting.
What makes it even more complicated is the water needs depends on the type of waste you are recycling.
Garden waste
Garden waste, such as fallen leaves, has low moisture content and requires wetting to kick-off the composting process. It often also requires additional water to prevent dust clouds when you aerate the waste with manual mixing. Water also keep ants at bay.
Kitchen scraps
Conversely, food wastes, such as vegetable and fruit scraps have high moisture density and release too much water that over-saturates your compost.
Bioverter vs traditional compost systems: No more water worries
With traditional compost bins and tumblers, adding kitchen scraps usually results in mushy and stinky conditions. To fix, you need to mix in dry wastes to soak up the excess water and aerate with manual mixing – more work and a bigger pile.
In contrast, Bioverter has been designed to recycle everyday kitchen scraps by using the water released from food wastes to moisten dry waste and lets excess water to drain away. The result is a fully aerated and odour-free environment with no manual mixing required.
You can add garden waste, such as leaves, flowers, tip pruning and leafy weeds (seed-free) as a supplementary input.
No water monitoring. No manual mixing. No odour.
Your bonus compost juice
Bioverter captures the excess water from food waste and transforms it into compost juice – a dark liquid packed with soil probiotics, soluble nutrients and humus substances.
Dilute it and water your houseplants and garden. It’s a simple and effective way to spread extra goodness from your composting efforts.
No more soggy waste, bad smells or guesswork. Just effortless composting — and a bonus liquid fertiliser.
